ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The 1970’s saw numerous upheavals and changes to The Rolling Stones when guitarist Mick Taylor was replaced in 1973/74 by Ron Wood, who had been a guitarist/bassist with Rod Stewart and The Faces since the late 1960’s. This program will include the following Rolling Stones songs: “Miss You,” “Start Me Up,” “Emotional Rescue,” “Beast of Burden,” “When the Whip Comes Down,” “Waiting on a Friend,” “Undercover of the Night,” “Going to a Go-Go,” “Harlem Shuffle,” “Hang Fire,” “Shattered,” “Hot Stuff,” and many more. Footage will be from promo films, television appearances, concerts, and more. “Woody,” as Ron Wood has often been called by fans, was the perfect musical match for Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Ron almost looked as if he could have been Keith Richards’ brother. Their work together complemented one another as Wood brought a raw, gritty sound, bringing a harder edge to their songs. He played slide, steel pedal, and lap guitar on many of the album tracks. Ron even co-wrote many of the songs on The Rolling Stones’ classic albums, including on “It’s Only Rock and Roll,” “Black and Blue,” “Some Girls” and “Tattoo You.” On stage, Ron Wood was playful while sharing guitar parts with Richards, creating fun for the audience. He co-wrote “Stay With Me” and “Gasoline Alley” with Stewart. His many contributions to other artists’ songs illustrate further how talented Wood is. Ron has played on numerous records and on stage with Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Bo Didley, George Harrison, The New Barbarians, Bob Dylan, The Band, Ringo Starr, David Bowie, Prince, Slash, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, and Aretha Franklin. In addition to numerous solo albums of his own since 1974 and his musical endeavors with others, Ron Wood is an accomplished artist whose artwork has graced many album covers and art galleries. Wood was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 for his work with The Rolling Stones and again in 2012 for his work with The Faces.
