ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The American rock band The Chicago Transit Authority reinvented rock with the addition of horns and a big band sound. Soon after their start, a lawsuit with the transit company in their hometown resulted in the shift to the name that identifies them to this day. Despite a number of member changes, their harmony and sound remain recognizable. Although no stranger to social commentary and early experimentation, the band had some of its biggest hits with sentimental and romantic ballads that became instant classics. They have sold 22 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums, had 5 number-one albums, and 21 top-ten singles. This tribute will focus on their early years, starting in 1969 and going into the early 1980’s. The resulting montage from films and videos of live performances will show why this group is still popular today. Some of the songs included will be “25 or 6 to 4,” “Color My World,” “Feelin’ Stronger Every Day,” “If You Leave Me Now,” and “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?”
