ABOUT THE FILM: An overlooked film of the 1990’s Billy Crystal’s Mr. Saturday Night is both a love letter to the early days of stand-up comedy and a requiem for an outdated performer. The film portraits the life of a fictional comic named Buddy Young Jr. (Designed in the shadow of Henny Youngman) and chronicles his life and relationships that led both to his successes and failures. Billy Crystal’s directorial debut was co-written by Crystal and the prolific screenwriting pair, Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel (A League of Their Own, Parenthood). David Paymer was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Stan, Buddy’s subservient and tragic brother and Helen Hunt, Jerry Orbach, and Ron Silver round out the cast with touching and realistic performances.
Rated R | In English | 118 minutes
