Stamford Pack 48 6th Annual 2013 “Hitting Home” Charity Hit-A-Thon Event

Stamford Cub Scout Pack 48 plans to assist the New Covenant House of Hospitality In their 6th Annual 2013 “Hitting Home” Charity Hit-A-Thon Event

The Cub Scouts of Pack 48 in Stamford will be holding their 6th annual charity drive, the “Hitting Home” Charity Hit-A-Thon on Sunday, January 27th at Bobby Valentine’s Sports Academy at 72 Camp Avenue in Stamford CTThis year the boys are looking forward to knocking another fundraiser out of the park in support of another local charity.  For more information on participating in Pack 48’s “Hitting Home” Charity Hit-A-Thon, or to make a donation or sponsor/support this event, please contact Christina Nathanson at info@pack48.org or visit www.Pack48.org.

The 2013 Hit-A-Thon is dedicated to assisting families in need of nourishment.  In October 1978, New Covenant House of Hospitality served its first meal from the basement of a little building at 66 West Main Street, Stamford. Since then thousands of hungry people have found physical and social nourishment at NCH. Now, the area’s only “soup kitchen”, is an ecumenical project of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Bridgeport. We are located in the Yerwood Center on the West side of Stamford, an economically deprived area, with a diverse population of homeless, working poor, disabled and elderly. During the course of 365 days per year, we serve individuals two hot meals a day and provide a take home breakfast to our dinner guests. Additionally, our Tuesday Food Pantry grocery program serves several hundred families each month. This program provides a weekly ration of food for each member of the participating families. In 2012 we provided over 700,000 meals to our less fortunate neighbors here in lower Fairfield County.

The Cub Scouts of Pack 48 are currently obtaining pledges to support their batting performance during the event.  The Pack hopes to donate a minimum of $4,000 to New Covenant House of Hospitality.  In January, each Scout will step into a batting cage at Bobby Valentine’s Sports Academy, and do their best to hit their personal and Pack fundraising goals.

There will also be an Open Swing Session open to the public where, for a $10.00 Donation, families can participate and compete for a prize.  Please feel free to join in the fun!  Details are posted to their website www.pack48.org.
