MLK DAY EVENTS ON TAP AT THE MLK JR APTS IN STAMFORD
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is being celebrated at the namesake Martin Luther King Jr. Apartments (MLK Apts.)with a series of events that highlight and play off Dr. King’s “I have a dream”speech. The day gets underway at the MLK Jr. Apartments, 40 Stillwater Avenue in Stamford at 11 AM. This community event is open to the public. The day has been organized by MLK Tenants Association and the NNI Tenant Advocate Program
at the MLK Apts. and volunteers from Stamford-based BuildOn.

- Opening of the Weight
- Welcome guests/attendees,
thank participants & offer Reflections in newly
re-activated MLK Activity Room
Viewing of the Inauguration of President Barack Obama on a big-screen TV
- Food Bank Award honoring MLK tenant Ms.
Lurleen Scoggins (initiator of the 1st
Pantry at MLK) and announcement of the re-start of the MLK Pantry.
- Playing of Original Speech by Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. on recording provided
by Ms. Rosebud Davis.
- Luncheon for
tenants/guests of the MLK Apartments.
Educational and Inspirational Games for the children in the Activity
Room, directed by student volunteers from BuildOn.
Reading of Inspirational Essays on the topic “My Dream & Vision” by NNI tenants of all ages in the Community Room. Viewing of all essays posted
on the walls of the Community Room
Break-out discussion groups in Community Room for all participants to both socialize and discuss how
collectively we can “keep the dream alive”.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Apartments were
developed by and are owned and managed by New Neighborhoods, Inc., Fairfield
County’s oldest active nonprofit housing developer. The MLK Apartments and its
tenants have been part of the fabric of the West Side of Stamford since 1972. For
