“CHINA’S QUEST FOR SOFT POWER”

Terry
Lautz, Phd, will speak at the World Affairs Forum on February 12 at UCONN/Stamford.
 The program will begin at 5:45 P.M. with
networking and refreshments, followed by the presentation at 6:15.  The program will conclude at 7:30 P.M.



Dr. Lautz
is Visiting Professor at Syracuse University's Maxwell School and former Vice
President of the Luce Foundation. At the Luce Foundation, he managed grants for
educational programs between the U.S. and both North and South Korea, including
the Syracuse University-Kim Chaek University exchange. Other grants supported
Korean studies programs at U.S. universities. He has visited both the ROK and
the DPRK.

Dr.
Lautz was a public policy scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington,
DC in 2010, and is currently writing a book about the influence of American
missionaries on U.S.-China relations. Some of his recent publications include:
“China’s Deficit in American Studies,” The Chronicle of Higher Education,
August 12, 2010,  and “The Student
Volunteer Movement and the American Liberal Education Ideal,” in China's
Christian Colleges: Cross Cultural Connections, 1900-1950.
