Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Stamford?

Lottery officials have confirmed that the winning ticket in Wednesday's drawing was sold in Fairfield County, and there are rumors swirling that it was sold in Stamford.

According to published reports, the winning Powerball ticket in Wednesday’s drawing may have been sold in Stamford.

Lottery officials have — and rumors are swirling that it was sold here in town. So far no one has stepped forward to claim the prize.

Mike Patel, who owns two convenience stores on Belltown Road, Belltown Variety and Belltown Superette, reportedly told the Stamford Advocate that he may have sold the winning ticket — however that is yet to be confirmed by lottery officials.

In the Advocate report, Patel said he had heard “from relatives, friends and patrons” that the winning ticket was sold in one of his stores.

Lottery officials said Thursday the $254.2 million jackpot is by far the biggest the organization has awarded.

The winning numbers were 12-14-34-39-46 and the Powerball was 36. Tickets that match the first five numbers, but miss the Powerball, win $200,000 each. According to lottery officials there were 19 of those in 11 states.

Winners have 180 days to come forward to claim their prizes.
