State Attorney General: Nash Lawsuit Groundless

State Attorney General George Jepsen reportedly filed a memorandum with the claims commissioner's office Friday requesting that the state dismiss the case brought against the DEEP by 2009 chimp attack victim Charla Nash.

The State Attorney General's office has reportedly asked the state claims commissioner to dismiss a — the former resident who was horrifically mauled by her friend and employer Sandra Herold's pet chimpanzee in 2009 — alleging that and yet allowed it let to roam free.

As per a report in the Stamford Advocate, State Attorney General George Jepsen filed a memorandum with the claims commissioner's  office Friday requesting that the state dismiss the case, mainly because the about whether exotic pets, such as Herold's chimp, Travis, were allowed to roam freely.

Nash is seeking a settlement of $150 million from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) for the suffering she has endured as a result of the vicious Feb. 16, 2009, attack at Herold's Stamford home, in which the chimp tore-off her face, eyes and hands. The chimp was shot and killed by police who responded to the chaotic scene. Herold has since passed away.

Nash, who also has a civil case pending against Herold's estate, received national media attention for the she received in 2010 — one of the first of its kind — making appearances on Oprah and other programs.

If the state claims commissioner decides to dismiss the suit, then Nash can still bring it directly to the state legislature, beginning with the Judiciary Committee, according to the Stamford Advocate report.
