Stamford's Lucky the Dog Not So Lucky After Skunk Run-In
The dog was found running around with a skunk tail in his mouth.
A do named Lucky was anything but when his owner discovered him running around with a skunk tail in his mouth.
According to Stamford Animal Care & Control Shelter officials, the dog, a mixed-breed black lab, pulled the tail off a dead skunk the owner discovered under the shed. The owner told officers he had noticed the scent of something that had died in the area, but initially couldn't find the cause.
Shelter Director Laurie Hollywood said they'd be sending the skunk out for rabies testing, but the skunk was in a rather advanced state of decay. Since officials couldn't be certain what interaction the two animals might have had or what led to the skunk's demise, the dog would have to be quarantined if testing proved fruitless.
Hollywood advised residents that it's not a bad idea for pet owners to take a walk around their yards this time of year to check for wildlife before letting pets loose there.
