Stamford Man Charged with Stealing Thousands from New Canaan Radio Shack

A Stamford man was arrested by New Canaan police last week after allegedly stealing between $8,000 and $10,000 from his employer over the course or several years, police said Monday.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, police were called to the Radio Shack located at 94 Park Street at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17 by a regional loss prevention manager who was with 30-year-old employee Justin Powell, of 99 Orange Street in Stamford.

The loss prevention manager alleged Powell had been making fake returns between $10 and $40 since as early as 2009. Powell would allegedly run fake returns and list the items as "Other Store Income, Non-Taxable" so the missing funds would not be marked by incorrect inventory numbers.

Ogrinc said Powell had been cooperating with loss prevention and the police and was working at his place of employment at the time New Canaan authorities received the call.

Powell was charged with fourth-degree larceny and released on a $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 30.
