Stamford in for High Winds, Possible Flooding

Total rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2 inches are forecast from Friday's storm system.

With rain expected to continue through Friday evening and plenty of snow still left on the ground, the National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Stamford and surrounding areas effective through Saturday morning.

Total rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2.0 inches are forecast from the system, which may include brief but intense downpours and thunderstorms.

"Excessive runoff from this storm will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpassess as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots," the service warns.

The rain is projected to taper off by late this evening, possibly followed by scattered snow showers after 9 p.m. A high of 45° and an overnight low of 20° are called for.

"The high winds will bring down trees and power lines. Loose, lightweight objects outdoors such as trash cans and deck furniture should be brought indoors or secured," the service advises.
