Stamford Check Cashing Store Reportedly Robbed at Gunpoint

Police said it appeared that a substantial amount of money appeared to have been taken.

A check cashing store located in Stamford's Westside was robbed of a substantial amount of money Monday morning, police said.

According to Capt. Richard Conklin, the X Bankers location at 341 West Main Street was reportedly robbed at gunpoint Tuesday at approximately 8:38 a.m.

Conklin said authorities were still working on identifying exactly how much was taken, but Conklin said it as "probably a substantial amount."

A black male in a hoodie and gloves allegedly pointed a gun at the only employee working at the time and demanded money. Conklin said the video surveillance system and alarm system were not functioning at the time of the robbery.
