Residents Unhappy About Boat Yard Closure, YHW is Supportive

Stamford residents are exploring other boat yard options given the closing of the popular Yacht Haven West, and they explore these options with the aid of Yacht Haven West's management.

Despite apparent somberness among former Yacht Haven West customers in regards to YHW's closing, as reported by the Stamford Advocate, the managment of YHW appears to be supportive of customers whom will soon need a new home for their boats.

"Yacht Haven West is Stamford’s last working boat yard capable of hauling, repairing and winter storing larger boats and boats that draw more than 6 feet. Boaters from Greenwich to Norwalk and even from across Long Island Sound in Oyster Bay, Cold Spring Harbor Huntington and Northport use it for both winter storage and as a repair facility," a former customer of Yacht Haven West stated.

According to past YHW clientele, founder and president of Brewer Yacht Yards Jack Brewer informed YHW customers of the yard's closure on July 25th. YHW's current closing date is October 31st, 2011.

"In an emergency such as when a boat is sinking, Yacht Haven West was the only local facility capable of removing it from the water," said a former YHW customer.

In an eloquent reply to a customer's concerns over YHW's closure, Brewer stated that there were other options available, such as "Brewer Mamaroneck, Stratford, Branford, Westbrook, or Essex," and "No matter which option you choose, we will help get your boat to its winter home and make sure you are welcomed as a valuable customer."
