'Prolific' Burglar Charged In Decades-Old Stamford Break-Ins

The suspected burglar was identified by a distinctive hat worn at the scene of each crime, police said.

A burglar Stamford authorities called "prolific" in the city in 2002 was arrested while in jail and charged with the previous crimes, police said Tuesday.

According to Sgt. Andrew Gallagher, Reginald Robinson, 53, already in prison in Valhalla, NY, was charged late Monday morning for his alleged involvement in a multitude of burglaries around the city more than a decade ago.

Gallagher said leads developed from photos and surveillance video at some of the locations Robinson was allegedly robbing. In every video, the burglar wore the same "distinctive hat," Gallagher said, which Stamford Police captured in a photo and issued to surrounding areas.

Authorities in West Chester told Stamford police shortly after being issued the photo, they believed they could identify the suspect.

Now-retired Stamford Detective George Whalen, who currently works for the Juvenile States Department, went and interviewed Robinson in prison, Gallagher said, then brought the suspect back to Stamford.

Robinson was charged with sixth-degree larceny, second-degree larceny, credit cart theft, four counts of third-degree larceny and six counts of third-degree burglary. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
