NBC Universal Officially Opens Its Doors in Stamford

Today, NBC Sports Group officially opened its new International Broadcast Center at 1 Blachley Road with the help of Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Mayor Michael Pavia and much fanfare.

With food and drinks, the celebration included remarks from Chairman of the NBC Sports Group Mark Lazarus, the governor and the mayor prior to an official ribbon cutting.

"From the very beginning, we received an incredibly warm welcoming," Lazarus said. "For that, we are appreciative. We are appreciative to the City of Stamford, we're appreciative to the State of Connecticut."

The center, built at the site of the city's former Clairol headquarters, is a digital media powerhouse built in part thanks to Malloy's First 5 Program, now expanded to First 15, to bring jobs to the state and focus on growth industries. Malloy cited 36,000 jobs having been created as part of the initiative over the last 2.5 years.

Pavia said he was overjoyed the $100 million project was completed prior to the end of his term and thanked NBC for bringing hundreds of jobs to the city. Check out the video above for some scenes from the ribbon cutting.
