Nature Center Coming to Mianus River Park

The Wildlife Center of Fairfield County will spend $150,000 to renovate the historic barn in the park, converting it into a staffed facility that will treat injured and orphaned animals, as well as provide educational programs.

The has reportedly brokered a deal with The Wildlife Center of Fairfield County to establish a nature center in the old barn in .

According to a report in the Stamford Advocate, the Wildlife Center will spend $150,000 to renovate the historic barn, converting it into a staffed facility that will treat injured and orphaned animals, as well as provide educational programs. Work is expected to begin in 2013.

The Wildlife Center, which signed a 20 year lease with the city for the barn, will next embark on a capital campaign to raise about $4 million to establish the new nature center and staff the facility, according to the report. The non-profit reportedly hopes to get the new center opened by 2014.

As part of the renovation, the facility will include a quarters where one staff member will live year-round.

The 300 acre Mianus River Park straddles the Stamford-Greenwich town line.
