Malloy Pushing For Sunday Liquor Sales

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy plans to propose sales, according to a report by the online news website CT News Junkie, as well as extending the hours during the week that bars, restaurant and package stores can serve and sell alcohol. 

According to the report, Malloy plans to propose ending the ban on Sunday liquor sales in Connecticut, but also plans to extend the hours during the week that package stores can serve alcohol from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., as well as extending the hours that bars and restaurants can serve alcohol to 2 a.m. every night of the weekend; currently, establishments in Connecticut can only serve alcohol until 2 a.m. on weekends, and most stop serving by 1 a.m. during the week. 

, but has never been able to muster enough support to do so, as most package store owners support the ban since they say they would not make enough on Sunday sales to justify the expense of having to remain open for the day. Supporters claim lifting the ban would allow the state to collect much needed tax revenue. 

Malloy plans to announce his proposal at a press conference at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Enfield Town Hall.
