Harbor Point Hosts A Movie Night

A fun night out for the whole family is provided by the company rejuvenating Stamford's South End.

The weather for Wednesday, August 24, is expected to be sunny with temperatures in the 80’s. So, what could be better than to end the day in spacious Commons Park in Stamford’s South End?

The folks at Building and Land Technology, the company tasked with constructing the Harbor Point project in the waterside neighborhood, have come up with a terrific excuse for spending the evening in their breezy new oasis. Beginning at 6:00 pm BLT will host the last of this summer’s Sunset Movies in the Park.

The event will kick off with live music provided by the rock cover band the Oh Gees. Before the movie, BLT will also be offering tours of the new construction via rides on the Harbor Point Trolley.

Then, at dusk (approximately 8:00 pm) the company will show the family-friendly film College Road Trip on a large screen in the center of the park. The movie, starring comic Martin Lawrence and Raven Symone, was shot, in part, in the city’s Glenbrook neighborhood.

Throughout the evening vendors will serve cotton candy, popcorn and Robek’s tart yogurt (a tangy alternative to traditional frozen yogurt or ice cream) all free of charge. BLT’s Marketing and Communications Specialist, Melissa Fish, provided the following details:

PATCH: Have people been showing up for the films this summer?

BLT: We showed the movie Old Dogs last week and had a pretty good turnout.

PATCH: Are the trolley rides and music prior to the film unique to this particular screening?

BLT: Correct. We’re trying to make the last movie night extra special. So, we have the Oh Gees starting at 6:00 pm. They’re fun! They’ll get you up on your feet!

PATCH: What do people need to bring to enjoy the movie?

BLT: We tell them to bring blankets or lawn chairs to get comfortable. And bring along their own snacks if they want to.

PATCH: What’s the parking situation like?

BLT: There will be signs directing people. You can park at 100 Washington Blvd., right across the street, or along the street, if you can find a spot.

Commons Park is located just north of 101 Park Place in Harbor Point, on a triangular plot between Washington Blvd. Atlantic Street and Walter Wheeler Drive. If you stop for snack items on your way there at the nearby Fairway Market, 699 Canal Street, 10% of the money you spend will be donated to Backpack Giveback, as non-profit that provided school supplies and backpacks to students in Stamford.
