Fewer Cyclists Using Stamford City Buses

There's reportedly been a drop-off in the number of cyclists using racks on city buses.

Recent statistics from the Connecticut State Transit Authority reportedly show a drop-off in over the past three years, even though ridership has gradually increased.

The agency reports that there were 6,900 bicycle boardings on the Stamford district's 54 CTTransit buses in 2011 — a decrease from the 7,630 bicycle boardings recorded in 2008, according to a report in the Stamford Advocate.

In the report, Jerry Silber, president of People Friendly Stamford, a new group seeking to promote pedestrian and projects in the city, said the numbers would likely increase as the city adds more bicycle lanes through the downtown, thus making it easier and safer for area commuters to ride to work.
