- Mayor Pavia has declared a until further notice. This means that both residents and non-residents must remove their vehicles from snow emergency routes. Parking will be available at Bell Street and Bedford Street garages.
- Connecticut gets an average of 12.3 inches of snowfall in the month of January, according to the CT Department of Environmental Protection. Record keeping of this sort began in 1905, and the most snowfall recorded to date was in March 1994, when 83.1 inches of snow fell.
- John Hancock, first signer of the Declaration of Independence, was born on this day in 1737.
- Connecticut residents are urged to stay home during this snowstorm, but once the roads have been cleared, you may want take some advice from local driving school instructor Ron Occhino before heading back out.
- There will be regular garbage and recycling pick-up on Monday, Jan. 17 (Martin Luther King Jr. holiday). However, the Transfer Station and the Katrina Mygatt and Scofieldtown Road Recycling Centers will be closed. They will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
