5 Non-Traditional Ideas for Valentine's Day

This year, think outside of the box when planning your V-Day with the ones you love.

Valentine’s Day is known for flowers, chocolates and things that sparkle, however, in this day in age, it pays to be unique. Patch Picks is here with some great ideas for how to share Valentines with the ones you love without all of the traditions:

#1. Beer and Bratwurst

For a break from the champagne and dinner over candlelight, check out on for their “Best of the Belgians” Valentine’s Day Beer Dinner. The dinner includes a special five-course menu, a variety of beers, one served during each course and also features live music. #2. Tea with Teddy

Sometimes the non-traditional V-Day means celebrating with the whole family. The is ready for just that with their Teddy Bear Tea Party on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. where kids can dress up their Teddy Bears in their party best and bring them to a special tea for Valentine's Day.

There will be a variety of tea time treats and sweets, an enchanting tale and even a teddy bear surprise for you to bring home. For more information or to register, call 203-977-6521. Tickets are $45/per one adult & one child for members and $25 for each additional family member and $55/per one adult & on child for non-members and $25 for each additional family member.

#3.  Tango for Two


How about the gift that keeps on giving? The gift of dance! on Summer Street is having a Valentine’s Group Class for Couples on Monday Feb. 14 from 7-8. The class is $50 per couple, which includes a glass of wine and a fun group class. To attend, you must register by Feb. 12 by calling 203-353 4363.  The studio is also featuring Valentine’s Day gift certificates available for purchase for those interested learning more — after all, it takes two to tango.

#4. V-Day with Oscar

Got a movie-buff in your life? in Stamford is featuring Oscar Nominated Film Festivals over the next few weeks. This weekend they will feature the Oscar nominated live-action shorts on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. and the Oscar nominated animated shorts on Sunday starting at 11 a.m. For more information, or to see what other films they have in store in the upcoming weeks, visit their Web site.

#5. Cooking with Cupid

Whether you love to cook or may just be looking for a few tips, Culinary Works offers group and private cooking party classes and gift certificates at both their locations on East Main Street in Stamford and Elm Street in New Canaan.

This year’s Valentine’s Day class is held at the New Canaan location and will feature a menu of Wild Mushroom Croustaes with Asiago and Truffle Oil, Pan Seared Duck Breast with Blackberry Reduction Sauce, Herb Wild Rice with Toasted Pecans, Sautéed Escarole with Garlic and Sinfully Chocolate Dessert.
