MetDance Stars Shine at Manhattan Dancesport 2013

Metropolitan Dance Center competitors did what they do best at every Ballroom Dancesport competition: perform and win. This time it was at the 2013 Manhattan Dancesport Championships. USDC Champions and Pro/Am Competitor Sergey Vasilyev and Robin Kencel, gracefully took 1st place in the Open Gold Smooth 4-Dance Scholarship. Amateur Daniel Haims, with his teacher Shannon Jensen, consistently topped the Single Dance Division, and was a finalist in the Open Gold Rhythm 5-Dance Championship. Amateur Joan Allen, also with Vasilyev, placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, in all of her single dances.

Coming out victorious as well was MetDance’s power pro couple, Shane and Shannon Jensen, placing first in the Showdance Division with a break out routine. Their new Cabaret number, to Michael Buble’s “Cry Me a River”, was such a crowd pleaser that the audience couldn’t help but give a standing ovation even in the early part of the routine. The pro couple said they are very happy with their performance.

Manhattan Dancesport Championships, which began in 1998, is one of the country’s premier events. Held at the New York Marriot at the Brooklyn Bridge, the event is well attended by students and professionals in all divisions.  The next competitions that Metropolitan Dancer Center dancers will be vying for are Empire State Competition in NYC, as well as the highly coveted Capital Dancesport Championships in Washington D.C.
