NBCUniversal/Comcast Volunteers Spruce up New Covenant House

On Saturday, April 26, more than 650 Connecticut Comcast and NBCUniversal employees and their families and friends “made change happen” as they volunteered to improve eleven sites across the Nutmeg State, including New Covenant House of Hospitality in Stamford, as part of Comcast’s 13th Comcast Cares Day.

NBC Olympics President Gary Zenkel was joined by Stamford Mayor David Martin and State Senator Carlo Leone at the facility, where volunteers spent the day performing clean-up and beautification projects and helped to prep and serve meals.

Zenkel also announced a special donation of $25,000 to New Covenant House of Hospitality on Comcast Cares Day, which was received by Betsy Lopez, Program Coordinator at New Covenant House, along with Al Barber, President of Catholic Charities, Phil Shalala, Chairman Emeritus of New Covenant House and Paul Harinstein, President of the Board of Directors for New Covenant House.

This year, more than 80,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal volunteers participated in over 800 projects across the country and around the globe.  To date, more than half a million volunteers have contributed over 3 million volunteer hours since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.

“We were proud to again participate in this great day of giving and to partner with New Covenant House of Hospitality alongside our dedicated employees, their families and friends,” said Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics. “We are committed to serving and giving back in the communities where our employees work and live on Comcast Cares Day and beyond.”

The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteered on Comcast Cares Day.

The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year.  To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $14 million in grants to partner organizations to match the efforts of our volunteers on Comcast Cares Day.
