Lucille Roberts, a chain of 50 health clubs in the Northeast, announced Thursday that it's looking for franchisees to open clubs in Stamford, Norwalk, and three other locations in Connecticut.

The company claims to be "one of the largest systems of women's-only fitness centers in the industry, with an active membership base of more than a quarter of a million people." According to the company website, its current locations are in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

"Prospective Lucille Roberts franchisees will benefit from high unit volumes and average net sales of nearly $875,000," said Kevin Roberts, CEO of the company, in a news release.

In addition to health club locations in Norwalk and Stamford, the company is interested in opening them in Hartford, Bridgeport and New Haven.

"Lucille Roberts' real estate footprint, in comparison to big-box health clubs, translates to an overall smaller investment and reduced operating costs," said Collin Gaffney, Lucille Roberts director of franchise development, in the same news release. The company was founded in 1969.
