A chance to see rare rock footage, a new Stamford Patch column debuts and the search for a new superintendent begins.

For the last year or so, on the first Thursday of the month, the Avon Theatre has been the place to catch Long Island resident Shelley’s of classic clips by rock giants, including Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Who and many others, which he put together from reels and reels of film he fished out of the trash back in the 1980’s. Patch contributor Marc Ferris spoke with Shelley about how he grown his rare collection over the years.

This week, Stamford Patch debuted its new "" column, which discuss the health and wealth of your personal finances. Columnist Raymond Mullaney's first article tackled the subject of selling one's home after retirement.

Patch also paid a to Great Play, a children's gym on the West Side that helps kids gain more confidence in their athletic abilities. Great Play, which Jyl Camhi opened with her husband Keith in 2006, offers weekly classes, sports clinics and summer camps for children ages six months to 12 that are designed to develop their fundamental motor skills, and eventually, their complex motor skills.

Police & Fire

Stamford police a man during early Thursday morning raid who is believed to have shot and killed a city resident on Rose Park Place last Friday, according to Captain Richard Conklin. Jonathon Catchings, 24, of 46 Durant Street, Stamford, was taken into custody after the department obtained a warrant two days ago charging him with the of 25-year-old Raymond "Tank" Hayward.

And on Thursday, the Internet Crimes Against Children Division a 27-year-old Stamford resident David Denison on child pornography charges. Officers found 46 movie files containing 420 images of child pornography on several computers seized from Denison's home.

Schools

At a Tuesday night meeting, the Board of Education surrounding what the process will be for appointing an acting, interim, and — finally — permanent superintendent to fill Joshua Starr’s shoes. After an impromptu executive session, the board said that an acting superintendent would be announced the following Tuesday after a special meeting, and on June 21, it will hold a public meeting to discuss the process of selecting an interim and permanent superintendent.

Patch contributor Marion Herbert with Julia A. Stark School principal William Johnson about his last few weeks on this job. Although his tenure as principal was only two years, Johnson said that he feels he’s moved Stark in the right direction in terms of student achievement, applied best practices throughout the school and is confident in its new leader to continue his legacy.
