A Tasti D-Lite opens in Stamford, a former governor reflects on her political career and eight administrator positions are filled for Stamford Public Schools.

Brothers Aldo and Joe Criscuolo have their newest location of Tasti D-Lite at 211 Main Street. Tasti D-Lite's frozen dessert is a soft serve fresh blended frozen dessert that is made with all natural ingredients, contains less sugar than ice cream, has less than 10 percent butter fat. The brothers also own Nick's Pizza in Glenbrook, Heights Pizza in Darien, Davinci’s Pizza in Norwalk and GNA Associates, a local real estate and property management company.

Brookfield Patch editor Aaron Boyd with former governor M. Jodi Rell, who is pleased to be retired and settling into an easier routine back home in Brookfield after 25 years in politics. Rell told Boyd that people are already noticing that she looks more relaxed.

And on Wednesday, Mayor Michael Pavia, Postmaster Jim Simmons, Jr., and students from Saint Cecelia Elementary School at the U.S. Post Office in Springdale to unveil the U.S. Postal Service's new environmental awareness stamps as well as a special postmark created by a Trinity Catholic High School student.

Police & Fire

Police multiple reports of shots fired on Rose Park Place near Richmond Hill Avenue at approximately 3:44 a.m Friday morning. When officers arrived,  they found Raymond D. Hayward, 25, of 72 Spruce St., slumped over a curb in front of a vacant lot. Hayward, who was shot multiple times and was unresponsive, was transported to . He was pronounced dead shortly after. Hayward's death is currently under investigation.

Schools

With enthusiastic endorsements from Superintendent Joshua Starr, the Stamford Board of Education unanimously eight administrator positions for the upcoming school year, including Mark Bonasera joins SPS as the new principal of Julia A. Stark Elementary School, and Laura Lynam, who was promoted to the assistant principal role at Springdale Elementary School.

The Board of Education also met for a special meeting Monday night to the 2011-2012 budget for Stamford Public Schools, which was approved at $229.6 million by the Board of Finance last month and needed to be sliced by an additional $339,000.
