Another 2011 special election, a new bike shop and new look for the Stamford Marriott's penthouse floor.

Business

The penthouse floor of the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa, which once occupied by a rotating restaurant called Vuli, is currently being into premium turnkey office space for entrepreneurs by Stark Office Suites. Scheduled to open July 1, the office space will offer clients virtual office services and high-end amenities.

And this past Saturday launched the of Danny's Cycles fourth location, which is right here in Stamford. Located at 850 East Main Street, Danny's Cycles also has locations in New York City, Scarsdale and Mohegan Lake.

Goverment

In a special election to fill Carlo Leone's vacant seat after he won the 27th district State Senate race in February, Democrat Dan Fox Republican Charles Pia, Jr. and three other candidates in the race to become the 148th District's state representative. Official results show that Fox received 709 votes, or 39 percent, while Pia received 450 votes, or 25 percent.

In a a breakfast fundraiser in Stamford for Family Centers on Monday, former Federal Reserve Chair Paul Volcker weighed in on the nation's fiscal woes. For him, the budget deficit will amount to 90 or 100 percent of the nation's gross domestic product unless it's dealt with now.

Police & Fire

A federal jury in Hartford Charles Handy, 43, of Sherman Avenue, Stamford, guilty of federal crack cocaine distribution charges Tuesday afternoon following a four-day trial. Handy's arrest was the result of “Operation Hammertime,” a four-month long DEA Task Force wiretap investigation that targeted a drug trafficking operation run by Gavin Hammett out of the Roodner Court housing complex in Norwalk.

And Carlos Marte Santos, 40, who was arrested in 2009 for distributing cocaine and crack cocaine to Stamford area drug dealers, Wednesday in Hartford to 124 months of imprisonment followed by five years of supervised release.

Schools

Employees of local companies, including NBCUniversal’s Stamford Media Center, Citibank, GE, Xerox and Pitney Bowes, with students from 11 Stamford public elementary schools for the Workplace Volunteer Center of Southwestern Fairfield County’s Annual “Business to Books” Read-a-thon. "Maury" executive producer Paul Faulhaber read two books with Cathy Austin's first-grade class at Toquam Magnet, but also discussed a myriad of topics, including family pets, weird foods and what it's like to be a TV producer.
