[Visions for Vacancies]: Trader Joe's is Coming to Stamford

It will take the place of the former Borders Book Store on High Ridge Road.

More than a year ago, Borders Book Store announced it would be leaving Stamford. Since May of 2011, the building on High Ridge Road has stood vacant.

Recently, the city received some good news: a tenant has been found and it's a solid anchor for the area of shops. Trader Joes would be filling the empty store.

Feedback has seemingly been good. Many residents and area shop owners have expressed excitement for the store to be coming to Stamford.

"I'm happy they're coming," said Stamford Pharmacy Pharmacist Mitchell Midgen. "I think it will help my business and be good for the community. I think Trader Joe's will be a great anchor store for the area."

Dairen is already home to a Trader Joe's and the town keeps the store busy. Even the recent peanut butter recall hasn't seemed to deter those looking forward to the new addition.

"I'm totally excited, are you kidding me," exclaimed Sandy Labriola, owner of Labriola Frame & Art Gallery. "I never get the opportunity to go over to Darien and I love Trader Joe's. It's better than a big empty store, It'll fill out the shopping center and I'm happy it'll be Trader Joe's that's doing it."

So what do you think? Is Trader Joe's what you had envisioned for the use of the building? Could you think of anything you would want more? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
