Stamford-based Starwood Hotels to Open New Sheraton in Iraq

Starwood Hotels & Resorts, which closed its operations in Iraq more than 20 years ago, at the start of the Gulf War, has reportedly signed an agreement with BCD Co. to manage a new Sheraton hotel in Erbil, Iraq, scheduled to open in 2015.

According to a press release, Starwood, which closed its operations in Iraq more than 20 years ago, at the start of the Gulf War, has reportedly signed an agreement with BCD Co. to manage a new Sheraton hotel in Erbil, Iraq, scheduled to open in 2015.

The will have 221 guest rooms and 39 suites, according to the release, as well as dining, conference and leisure facilities. It will also include a spa and an indoor/outdoor pool.

Starwood reportedly operates close to 50 hotels in the Middle East, including 16 Sheraton hotels. The company plans to open more than 30 hotels in the region over the next few years, the release states.
