OPIN to Stamford: Egypt the Cat Needs Your Help

This is Egypt. On Tuesday morning, Outreach to Pets In Need will be providing surgery to have her pelvis reattached to her spine after being hit by a car and left for dead on High Ridge Road.

Outreach to Pets In Need (OPIN) will be providing a special surgery to have a cat's spine reattached to its pelvis after it was hit by a car and left for dead on High Ridge Road.

The cat, whom everyone has affectionately taken to calling Egypt, will receive the surgery from Dr. Melvyn Pond, a specialist in the type of surgery Egypt will need to undergo.

The total bill for the procedure, including board, comes out to about $2,500.

"She'll be able to move around pretty quickly after the surgery," said Jenny Colucci, co-founder of OPIN. "OPIN takes in 500 animals a year. Their costs run around $70,000 annually. We love donations to help us cover costs like these!"

OPIN is also currently taking care of a dog with lymphoma who will be undergoing his third chemotherapy treatment soon and seems to be battling the disease well.

OPIN is also hoping they'll be able to find a foster home for Egypt while she recuperates, but Colucci said owners might be out there.

"We'd love to find [them,]" she said. "She seems to be a well-taken-care-of cat. After this surgery she should be up and moving around pretty quickly."

Egypt, as with most special needs cases, is one of the more costly cases the group would typically see in a year.
