Making Stamford Melt: Stamford's Melt Mobile

Diana Hall and Darlene Andersen will make you melt. Well, they'll make you A melt. The two just celebrated their first year in business operating Stamford's favorite mobile melt machine, formally known as the Melt Mobile.

They kicked off business April 1, 2012, with a grand opening attended by Bobby Flay and have been making outdoor lunch-seekers and late night bar hoppers happy every since.

Hall has a background in business and Andersen has a background in culinary arts. Both were working in the food industry when they decided to join forces and start their own operation.

"We decided on gourmet grilled cheeses because we can turn any gourmet entree into a grilled cheese," Hall said. "The food truck craze hadn't really hit Stamford ye, so we decided to be pioneers."

Currently, Hall said their top items are the Cuban Melt, the Jalapeno Popper Melt and the Insanewich, a monster creation that is a bacon cheeseburger stuck between two grilled cheese sandwiches. (Full disclosure: For science, editor DJ McAneny tried one. It was fresh and delicious. Highly recommended.)

The pair moves around the city a lot. Every other Tuesday they're serving up lunch in Landmark Square. Some days, they're behind the Stamford court house, at RBS or visiting Chelsea Piers. Late night Fridays and Saturdays, they're usually parked along Bedford Street. When The Beer Garden @ Harbor Point and Alive @ Five get to town, they'll be there, too.

Those interested can find a full schedule updated weekly on their Facebok page or at meltmobilect.com. The truck is also available for parties and catering needs.
