Job Fair Friday for 200 Positions in South End

Update your resume: Workers are needed for four restaurants opening this summer as part of the ongoing Harbor Point redevelopment in the South End.

A jobs fair takes place Friday for 200 positions at four new restaurants opening this summer at Harbor Point, the mixed-use project in the South End.

The May 16 hiring event is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the NEON Building, 34 Woodland Ave. in the South End of Stamford.

Building and Land Technology (BLT), developer of Harbor Point, is sponsoring the event with elected officials and non-profits. New retail stores are also part of the Harbor Point redevelopment.

Career Resources, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to job skills and training, is running the job fair, according to a news release from BLT.

Resumes are required and Career Resources staff will interview and pre-qualify applicants on the spot, before sending them to employers for interviews at a later date.

“By bringing together new residents, new office workers, and new retailers in Harbor Point, we are creating business activity that stimulates job growth and improves our economy,” said Carl R. Kuehner, III, CEO of BLT.

“People are still struggling, as the number of applicants outpaces the number of available jobs,” said Scott K. Wilderman, President and CEO of Career Resources Inc.  “But at the same time, employers very often struggle to find the right workers.  At CRI, we seek to provide workers with the skills and resources to succeed, and to make the best possible match for employers and for everyone involved.”

State Sen. Carlo Leone, a Democrat representing parts of Stamford and Darien, worked with BLT and Career Resources to organize and promote the event.

If you can't make Friday's job fair, you may get other opportunities: In the past month, numerous "Help Wanted" signs have sprung up on restaurant windows and other shop windows in Stamford and elsewhere in Fairfield County.
