Stamford High School Senior Dies in Apparent Suicide

A Stamford High School senior apparently took his own life Wednesday afternoon, school administrators confirmed Thursday morning. Superintendent Winifred Hamilton issued the following statement as the district prepared to provide support for the school community as it dealt with this tragedy:

"We are saddened and disturbed to learn of the death of on of our students. We are all deeply affected by events like this, and our sympathy goes out to the student's family and friends. The death of a student affects our entire school district and community. We plan to provide grief counselors, psychologists, and social workers for our staff and students today and throughout the week. Out of respect for the family's privacy, we will not provide any further details at this time."

The death, if confirmed a suicide, would be the second such incident in about a month. A 16-year-old girl took her own life at her Stillwater Avenue home on Sept. 26, 2013.
