[Updated] Man Dies After Being Struck by Loader at Stamford Industrial Site

Stamford Police Sgt. Andrew Gallagher confirmed the name of the victim in Tuesday's fatal accident as Francisco Dos Santos, 59, of Naugatuck, after O&G Industries released the name earlier that day.

According to the Stamford Police Department, the victim in total's fatal accident was a 59-year-old Naugatuck man and nine-year veteran of the Canal Street plant, though his identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

According to Sgt. Andrew Gallagher, the accident occurred at 11:58 a.m. Tuesday when a Caterpillar frontend loader operating within the yard of O&G Industries struck the worker.

The victim was declared deceased upon police arrival.

The operator of the loader was a 64-year-old Litchfield man who had been employed at O&G Industries for 19 years.

Stamford Police were joined in the investigation by representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who both sent representative to the scene.

Stamford emergency personnel responded to reports of a person being struck by a payloader Tuesday at a construction plant on Canal Street.

Capt. Tom Wuennemann confirmed the male victim had died at the scene, but had no additional details available at approximately 12:30 p.m.

At approximately 12:05 p.m., Belltown Fire reported the incident at the O&G Industries, Inc., plant. By 12:15 p.m., multiple units that had responded began moving away from the scene, though many trucks and police units remained, including the arrival of the Stamford Police Crash Analysis unit.
