Back to School Tax-Exempt Shopping Week Covers Clothing, Footwear

During the week of August 18th-24th, individual items of clothing and footwear under $300 will be entirely exempt from CT sales tax. The list of exempt items includes shirts, jeans, socks, gloves, hats, rain jackets and sneakers.

With the start of school just weeks away, Stamford families can save money on their school shopping during Connecticut's annual tax holiday.

For a full week, Sunday, August 18th through Saturday, August 24th, sales tax will be waived on back to school shopping. Individual items of clothing and footwear that cost less than $300 will be entirely exempt from the state’s sales tax.

“As summer winds down, the back-to-school season becomes a very busy time for both parents and children. There are new schedules to adjust to, and often a fair amount of shopping to get done. Tax free week makes it a little easier to purchase some of those necessary items, so I encourage everyone to take advantage of it,” said State Sen. Bob Duff (D-Norwalk, Darien) in a joint release issued with State Sen. Leone (D-Stamford, Darien).
