Interfaith Evening of Film and Faith

The Interfaith Council of Southwestern Connecticut is proud to announce its first “Evening of Film and Faith” on Thursday, May 10th at 7:30 p.m. at the Avon Film Center, 272 Bedford Street in Stamford. The Council will screen the classic film “The Mission,” starring Robert DeNiro and Jeremy Irons, Winner of the Palme d'Or and Academy Award for Cinematography, this film eloquently explores the clash of religious cultures and power among missionaries and indigenous peoples in 18th century South America  – as well as the universality of tolerance, forgiveness and grace. A post-film discussion will be led by a panel of faith leaders of diverse traditions, including Rabbi Mitch Hurvitz of Temple Sholom in Greenwich and Dr. Kareem Adeeb, who leads Muslim services at the United Nations, Columbia University, University of Bridgeport and in Stamford.

Prior to the screening, the Council is hosting a reception at the Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery a block south at 96 Bedford Street, with food provided by Picante Fresh Mexican Grill. The evening is a fundraiser for the Interfaith Council, which connects faith communities in Southwestern Connecticut with one another, with non-profits and public agencies to promote interfaith conversation and be a catalyst for interfaith collaboration.
