"Democracy under Siege: Money, Media, and Morals:
Are “we, the people” being heard in today’s political maelstrom? Join us as we explore threats to our democracy and discuss how to reclaim our voices as citizens of the United States with our panelists. Dr. Randall Balmer, Chair of the Religion Department at Dartmouth College, will talk about the influence of special interests, particularly the “religious right,” in politics. John Bonifaz, J.D., Executive Director, Free Speech for People, will discuss the Citizens United decision and the influence of money in politics. Stephen Fuzesi, Jr., Visiting Fellow at Brown University and former vice president, chief counsel and secretary of Newsweek, Inc., will speak on the influence of the media in politics. Wellesley College associate professor Dr. Hahrie Han will address citizen participation and activism. Questions and discussion will follow the speakers’ presentations.
