Video: Bobby Valentine Honored at Citizen of the Year Award Dinner

Gov. Dannel Malloy and Mayor Michael Pavia were among those that honored Valentine for his dedication to the city of Stamford.

Hundreds of friends, family members and colleagues of Bobby Valentine, the city's director of public safety, health and welfare, gathered at the Wednesday night to honor him as the 2010 Stamford Citizen of the Year.

Valentine is the 66th recipient of the annual award president by the city of Stamford and the Jewish War Veterans (Fred Robbins Post 142) and was selected for his "lifelong commitment to the people and community of Stamford."

Governor Dannel Malloy and Mayor Michael Pavia were both in attendance to congratulate Valentine, who is also an ESPN commentator and the owner of and.

"I'm always impressed at [Bobby's] willingness to step forward and work on behalf of any good cause, particularly when it's in his own home community of Stamford," Malloy told attendees. "Bobby is one of those individuals who's rare charm, laughter and humor are only surpassed by the size of his heart and the size of his willingness to step forward and do things for other people."

The Jewish War Veterans also awarded five high-school seniors with scholarships on behalf of honored veterans. This year's recipients are Andrew Bishop, Grace Altamura, Phebe Mathai and Rachel Winsor of and Michelle Greenman of .
