Stamford's Visions for Vacancies-What Should Move Into The Former Sabini's Furniture Store In Shippan?

Since the 1960s, this three-story brick building g has been located on the bend of Shippan Avenue, near the entrance to Cummings Park and the Halloween Yacht Club.

The 39,000 square foot building was home to the P. Sabini & Co. furniture and appliance store until 1986. How many of us Stamford-area residents bought an easy chair, sofa or fridge from the Sabinis?

Most recently, the building was the home of of IFI, an antiques emporium and auction house.

Now it's vacant and, according to the sign posted outside, in bankruptcy court.

What do you think should be in this high-profile space?

Perhaps a nightclub? Or would another furniture and appliance emporium be the right fit?

Tell us in the comments section, or, if you prefer, share your memories of the venerable Sabini's.
