Stamford's Appreciation of the Abstract

If you're walking around downtown Stamford and noticed some shapes about town you've never seen before, that's just the Downtown Special Services District's annual Art in Public Places exhibit.

"There's 43 works of art spread out around and they're all fabulous," said DSSD President Sandy Goldstein. "They all belong in a museum somewhere."

Goldstein said a committee meets to discuss the coming two years' themes every year and his year, the group asked their curator to research some more traditional art pieces following last year's decorated horse theme.

Some artists contributed multiple pieces, none more than three, while most contributed a single piece, so there were fewer artists involved than pieces present, Goldstein said.
