Stamford Government Center Highlights Student Gardeners

Riding off the science high of yesterday's fair at Stamford's Roxbury School, be sure to swing by the Government Center Lobby and check out the multi-school Lettuce Challenge Contest.

Sponsored by the Stamford Garden Club and the GIVE program, which was founded by Stamford teacher and organic gardening enthusiast Pam Sloane, 16 schools from the city had students submit plants all grown from starter seeds of the same origin in the same pots, all provided by Sam Bridge Nursery and Greenhouses in Greenwich.

"It brings a lot of schools together," said Marion Glowka, Streetscape Coordinator for the Stamford Downtown Special Services District. "A lot of classrooms from different schools come together to challenge each other."

Jason B. , of Springdale Elementary, and Deisy and Smelanda, of Dolan Middle School, took Best in Show.
