Places in Stamford to Beat the Heat

Looking for ways to beat this crushing heat? With temperatures reaching into the high 80s and low 90s Monday and Tuesday and that trend expected to continue until at least Friday, here's a list of places you can go to cool down.

For starters, Stamford has a number of pools available with membership within its limits for people looking to take a dip and refresh themselves.

  • You've got Chelsea Piers CT, the area's newest additional with an indoor Olympic-sized pool and even some fun water rides in the Aquatics Center's Splash Zone.
  • There's the Italian Center of Stamford, which offers indoor and outdoor pool facilities, the indoor structure being a six-lane, heated pool.
  • The Newfield Swim & Tennis Club has a large outdoor pool.
  • The Stamford YMCA has a pool area as well.
"Last week, we had some picture perfect weather and our drop-in sessions were not as strong as they've normally been," said Mollie Marcoux, Executive Director of Chelsea Piers CT. "We're two days into summer and everyone's dying. Our memberships, drop-ins and camp emrollment have all seen increases... Last summer we had some really, really hot days. People have short memories. They forget, with kids playing outside, how hot it can get."

Additionally, the city has opened official cooling centers as a safety precaution for people without access to air conditioning. Announced Monday, those facilities will be open through Wednesday. For more information on heat safety, check out this link. The locations of the cooling centers are included below:

  • Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd, Stamford, 8:30am to 6:00pm
  • Stamford Fire Department Headquarters, 629 Main St., 8:30am to 6:00pm
