Greenwich Boys & Girls Club Taps Stamford School Exec as New CEO

Bobby Walker Jr., the head of the King Middle School in Stamford will become the new CEO in July.


The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich has selected King Middle School head Bobby Walker Jr. to serve as its CEO effective July 1.

Walker, head of the Middle School at King in Stamford, is a seasoned educator, administrator and coach who has spent two decades working with young people. He has served since at King since 2005 where he also teaches eighth-grade history and serves on the Admissions Committee and the Strategic Plan Task Force. 

Walker replaces Bob D'Angelo who announced his resignation in January after nearly 16 years with the club. Sukie McFadden will continue to serve as interim executive director through June 2014

From 2000 to 2005, Walker was Dean of Middle School Students at McDonogh School, a boarding and day school in Owings Mills, MD. Walker launched his teaching career in 1995 at his alma mater, St. Mark's School of Texas in Dallas, where he taught U.S. History, Language Arts and Life Skills. In 1998, he became Assistant Head of the St. Marks Middle School.

“Bobby’s background is perfectly suited to Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich,” Lisa Stuart, BGCG Board President, said in a statement. “We are thrilled that Bobby has agreed to lead the Club as it continues to extend its service to our community. He has spent most of his career working with young people, and he and his family have deep roots in the Greenwich community.  He has a true passion for leading, teaching and encouraging kids. Bobby will be an outstanding role model for our Club members.”

The youngest of eight children, Walker grew up in Dallas and participated in an independent school program run by the Boys Club of Dallas. After graduating from St. Mark's, he attended Williams College, where he received a bachelor's degree in history in 1995. At Williams, Walker played football and was a member of the track and field team. He was a six-time All-American and national champion in the hammer throw. Upon graduation, he received the prestigious Purple Key Award as the college’s top overall male athlete, as well as the Muhammad Kenyatta Community Service Award.  He was also distinguished as the Division III Male Athlete of the Year by the New England College Athletic Conference.

"I am truly honored to be selected as the CEO of Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich. As a young man, the Boys Club of Dallas played an integral role in my life when I needed guidance and support," Walker said in a statement. "This is what the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich can do for every child who walks through its doors. Working with the dedicated staff at the club, I am eager to build on the work that has already taken place, and discover new ways to prepare Greenwich youth to 'realize their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.'"

His wife, Becky Mallory Walker, has served as Middle School Head at Greenwich Academy since 2005. The Walkers have two young daughters and a son who attend local schools.
