Grammy Award Winner John Mayer Donates $15k to Stamford HIV Program

Rock musician and Connecticut native John Mayer has given a $15,000 grant to Stamford CARES through his own Back To You fund.

World-famous guitarist and Fairfield native John Mayer has donated $15,000 to Family Centers' Stamford CARES program, which will provide counseling and support services to individuals with HIV or AIDS.

"Family Centers has received a $15,000 grant from the Back To You Fund of theFairfield County Community Foundation (FCCF)," a representative of Family Centers stated in a recent press release.

According to Family Centers, the Back to You Fund is Mayer's own "donor–advised" fund, and the grant itself was done at Mayer's behest.

"This is the third year the Back to You Fund has supported Stamford CARES," a representative of Family Centers said.

“We applaud John Mayer and the Fairfield County Community Foundation for recognizing this need, and thank them for their generosity,” Family Centers President Bob Arnold said.

John Mayer's Back To You Fund, established in 2003, receives a percentage from the money he earns at shows. Not restricted to assisting people whom are ill, the Back To You Fund also benefits children, and attempts to keep the "arts alive in the community", according to Family Centers.

The Stamford CARES program assists individuals across Connecticut living with HIV and AIDS with a focus on helping them maintain productive lives.

"Services include case management, emergency financial assistance, support groups and referral services," a representative of Family Centers said.
