5 Steps for Choosing the Perfect Outfit for a Woman

Most men will agree that buying the perfect gift for their wife, mom, sister—or any female for that matter—can be made easier if they stick to couple of categories: flowers and jewelry. But if you'd like to shake things up a bit this Mother's Day, consider buying your special lady a brand new outfit.

You have no skills when it comes to shopping for women's clothes, you say? Well, according to Clarissa Alicea-Omeere, owner of young women's clothing store Dulces LLC at 926 Hope Street in Springdale, if you follow a few steps, you might be just become an expert.

1. Take Notes
Before heading out, look in your special lady's closet and "write down her shirt, dress, pants and shoe size," Alicea-Omeere said. It's also good to note the colors and patterns she prefers.

2. Ask for Help
If you're thinking of tackling this delicate task solo, think again. "If you try to shop by yourself, you might get into trouble," Alicea-Omeere said while laughing. Recruit a female friend or relative to shop with you or ask a sales associate for help.

3. Bring A Picture
Keep a picture of your lady handy while shopping—it will help you and the sales associate assisting you figure out the right outfit based on her shape, size and style, Alicea-Omeere said. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words...

4. Stay Away from Jeans
Feel free to choose almost any type of clothing or accessories, including a blouse or a handbang, but steer clear from the jeans section. "Shopping for jeans is very personal for a woman," Alicea-Omeere said. "We like to try them on before we buy them."

5. Be Careful with Trends
Mint green is popular this season and a great choice because it compliments most skin tones, according to Alicea-Omeere, but floral patterns, which are also big this spring, should be avoided. "A lot of women are afraid of that trend," she said. This is probably the main reason why Step 2 is so important.
