10th Annual "Model T's to Mustangs" Car Show in Stamford

Families from Connecticut and New York took a step back in time Saturday while at the 10th annual "Model T's to Mustangs" car show at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center.

More than 70 cars, including models from the Ford, Jaguar, Pontiac and Porsche families, showed up for the event. Proceeds from the show will benefit the museum's arts education and gallery initiatives.

This year's people's choice award went to Stamford resident Jim Friedman's original 1960 Ford GT40.

Many car owners, like Oxford resident Leigh Broderick, were thrilled just to get their cars out on the open road on a beautiful spring day. Broderick said he drove his 1939 Ford Convertible Sedan down the Merritt Parkway to get to the show.

"I love to get the car out. It belongs on that road," Broderick said of the Merritt Parkway, which turns 75 years old this summer.

Broderick first bought his '39 in 1965 when he was in high school. He sold it to his cousin a few years later and moved to California to attend college. His cousin eventually sold the four-door ragtop to a man in Orange, who held on to the car for more than 30 years. The owner told Broderick that if he ever sold the car, he would have the first shot at it.

In 1998, 32 years later, Broderick bought back the black '39 and fully restored it.

"I never lost track of that car," he said. "My thrill is driving it."

Stamford's Museum & Nature Center is a not-for-profit organization located at 39 Scofieldtown Road.
