WINNRESIDENTIAL TAKES HOME TWO CONNECTICUT APARTMENT ASSOCIATION (CTAA) NUTMEG AWARDS

Stamford, Conn. (January 16, 2014)WinnResidential, the property management arm of WinnCompanies, announced today that it has won two Nutmeg awards from the Connecticut Apartment Association (CTAA). Michael Cunningham received the Above and Beyond – Property Professional award and Metro Green Residential was named Green Property of the Year.

More than 150 CTAA members gathered to honor the state’s top housing professionals and properties at the annual holiday party and award ceremony.

Michael Cunningham received the Above and Beyond – Property Professional award for his outstanding dedication and service to ArtSpace Norwich, The Wauregan and ArtSpace Windham. His ability to improve the performance of these communities was demonstrated after only three months on the job by the five percent occupancy increase at ArtSpace Norwich and seven percent increase at The Wauregan.

Cunningham was also nominated for positively impacting his community with actions far exceeding the typical duties of his property manager role. After a sprinkler pipe burst at one of his properties, Cunningham worked with local authorities and contractors and was able to get 80 percent of residents back into the building that night while seeing to it that the remaining residents were provided a hotel room.

Over the next three weeks he led a recovery effort without incurring concessions or resident turnover, all of which was done while fulfilling the obligations of his other properties. While Cunningham attributed the success of the cleanup to his staff, the Nutmeg award singles him out in recognition of his efforts.

Metro Green Residential took home the Green Property of the Year award. Owned by Jonathan Rose Companies and located in Stamford, Conn., Metro Green is the state’s foremost transit-oriented residential development, situated adjacent to the Stamford Transportation Center and within walking distance of the downtown area. Submissions in this category were judged on the implementation of energy saving, weatherization and sustainability measures to reduce the overall environmental impact of the community.

Completed in 2009, Metro Green Apartments, the first phase of the community, consist of 50 green rental units and received LEED Gold for New Construction Gold. The second phase, Metro Green Residences, consists of an additional 50 green apartments. Once complete, Metro Green will feature 255 mixed-income residential units and a 17-story, 350,000-square-foot Class-A office tower. The overall Metro Green Residential project has received LEED for Neighborhood Development Gold certification.

“These awards are a tremendous honor for our company,” said Nicole Stone, Regional Marketing Coordinator at WinnResidential. “The fact that both an employee and a property took home awards speaks volumes about Winn’s commitment to outstanding residences and its employees.”

The Nutmeg Awards are given in 20 categories. In recent years, Winn has taken home numerous Nutmeg Awards. In 2011, Mill Pond Village was named Community of the Year (older than 20 years), the Hollander Building received Green Property of the Year – Converted, and Andrew Lund received Property Manager of the Year.
