Stamford Hospital to Host Educational COPD Workshop

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), a lung disease that makes it difficult to breathe, is the third leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Lung Association, COPD is caused by one or more health problems and includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Symptoms can include constant coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing, excess mucus and difficulty taking a deep breath.

On Saturday, November 9, Stamford Hospital will host a COPD Day during National COPD Awareness Month to educate community members about this serious though treatable disease. The free workshop will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Tully Health Center, 32 Strawberry Hill Court, Stamford.

The event will feature Dr. Paul Sachs, Stamford Hospital’s Director of Pulmonary Medicine and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and other professionals in the field who will educate attendees about COPD and demonstrate treatment and management options through exhibits, presentations and other educational materials.
