Flying High - Six CFES Scholars from Stamford Attend West Point STEM Camp

Six College For Every Student (CFES) Scholars from Cloonan Middle School in Stamford, CT were among the 92 middle school students nationwide who spent three days at the United States Military Academy at West Point last week for the summer STEM  (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) Workshop.

The seventh-grade Scholars are part of the CFES STEM program that helps students become college ready, with a strategic focus on increasing their interest, knowledge, and skill in STEM.

During the workshop, Scholars took part in STEM activities including a design challenge and a robot rodeo.  They also piloted a small drone and participated in a scavenger hunt on the West Point campus, while meeting students from across the country as well as getting a taste of residential college life.

Blanketed by the soft green mountains of West Point, New York, Scholars met cadets, captains and colonels on post and learned lessons about leadership, courage, and ethics.

“Being at West Point was such an amazing opportunity and I enjoyed meeting kids from all over the country who share my interests,” said seventh grade Cloonan student, Hoshahnia Kumaran.  “The West Point cadets taught us how much fun math and science careers can be.”
