Boys & Girls Clubs Host Regional Youth Conference

2014 Northeastern Regional Torch Club Conference “Ignite your Torch to Success”    March 10th

(STAMFORD, CT) – The Boys and Girls Club of Stamford and Greenwich hosted the 2014 Northeast Regional Torch Club Conference on Friday and Saturday, May 10 & 11, at the Stamford and Greenwich based Boys and Girls Clubs.    The conference hosted 200 girls & boys, ages 11-13 from Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire & Massachusetts.   The day consisted of a career fair that brought 18 panelists from Connecticut to speak to the youth about their professional accomplishments as well as their struggles.     The careers covered included Education, Athletics, Business, Public Health and Safety, Non-profit organizations and Public Services.    In addition, youth development workshops which were run by Boys & Girls Club professionals which focused on leadership, decision making, health & fitness, Social Recreation, Education and Service to Club & Community.   The weekend concluded with a fun magic show provided by Melissa Russo – The Queen of Magic.  Friday night festivities were held at the Greenwich Boys & Girls Club and included social events such as swimming, dancing, sports and a fashion show. 

The conference gave youth from around the Northeast an opportunity to interact with each other and share their experiences as Boys & Girls Club members.  During the conference, the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford won awards for the Northeast Region under the categories of Education (Multicultural Night) and Social Recreation (Winter Wonderland Fashion Show).  In addition, Boys & Girls Club of Stamford Program Director, Maribel Sandalo, received the honor of winning the coveted, Advisor of the Year Award.
